That is perhaps the crucial point about those early episodes — there was no threat, no element of chasing something. You need to spend a lot of time to get all the shots. And I think that gave us something unique, and our fans something unique.
Education with a side-order of soothing. Intricate manual labour, even by proxy, has a curiously relaxing quality to it. But if you have even a bit of knowledge, you feel like you can stand your ground a little more, and I think people appreciated that. Certainly, watching the reruns, Wheeler Dealers is at once far more relaxing and satisfying than the more excitable imitators which have since sprung up. We have a YouTube channel, and so the plan is to do more with that. And some of the more whimsical things, we want to get around to doing.
For instance, I want to set a land speed record in the electric ice-cream van that we built some years ago. Oh, and we have to actually serve ice-cream before and after each run. He also has plans to try and track down a vintage Bentley , once owned by an uncle, in which he was, as a child, driven at more than mph. Now, more than ever, we need to know that someone is out there, fixing things. Please update your payment details to keep enjoying your Irish Times subscription. Neil Briscoe.
More from The Irish Times Motors. Home energy upgrades are now more important than ever. But Brewer is just a buffoon with No respect for motor vehicles, he annoyingly yanked handbrakes on, slammed bonnets, doors and boots and worst of all would rag every vehicle he drove. The wheeler dealer show was in my top 5 best and very sad to hear the show has ended with Mike left in it, it should have been Edd, much more interesting guy and very informative, looking forward to watch what Edd will do, How about a pimp my ride sort of show, my car first lol.
Brewer was just an annoying brash gobshite. He is an irritating up himself bore. Edd however is class. A mechanic magician. I have learnt so much from his repairs — how things work and why. I could watch him all day whereas Brewer belongs in a pig pen with his kind. Edd was the star of that show; engaging, technically astonishing and damn good tutor. I hope his new show gets aired soon as I will be a watcher..
I dont dislike Mike brewer as he was a part of the show that showed you can make money out of restoring good cars getting them at a cheaper price. Although they gone separate ways I hope they both do well.. Brewer, quite literally, did bugger all but the old geezer malarkey. His runners found all the parts. You know he spent little or no energy on his jaunts as his weight burgeoned, the oik.
Seems like a great concept, minus a wee fat fecker. Brewer could just as well have been selling vacuum cleaners for all the knowledge that he contributed to the show. The new show I have watched and found it less than up to it, yet another motoring show falls by the roadside due to know nothing up their own arse money grabbing burocrates, file wheeler dealers next to Top Gear and close the box.
I feel Ant is doing an excellent job and is an extremely talented mechanic as well. Research, planning, and knowing the current market all plays into the show. Like everyone else I was disappointed that Ed left the show but Ant has filled the position very nicely.
I continue to watch and support Wheeler Dealers. Just watched an old episode of wheeler dealers with edd doing his sterling work.
That new guy is more for kids tv. Hope to see edd back on a popular tv channel soon. Loved the workshop parts of wheeler dealers and put up with the used car salesman spiff Brewer. Will keep looking for Edd on shows down under. Ed I see that they are playing the older Wheeler shows. I hope your getting some of the money! Also It was great seeing you on the TV again!
Hope you do get your own show also! EDD, Great to see you are back to doing what you really enjoy doing. Also making a paying living for you and your family. I will watch Thank, your friend Mike. A great and knowledgeable mechanic who has a lot of respect for those less fortunate. Good Luck Ed. You are a legend and a gent I really hope you get scooped up by some network or other to make a fascinating show about car fixing.
I like Ant too and I think he has more potential than the show is letting him show. It seems they have him simplifying everything to a basic level for the American audience.
Why all the Criticism, Mike and Ed, were a good team, entertaining to watch , and Ed was obviously very knowledgeable.. Ant and Mike were just as enjoyable and I think given time we will find Ant is just as knowledgeable.. You lost me as a viewer. Al in Massachusetts U. Cmon get the old China back on tv. Edd was the best,I was myself a automechanic ,but edd knowledge is absolut amazing.
I miss him on TV,forget the stupid brewer. Looking forward to more episodes! Please someone tell me why the new Edd programme is not on mainstream TV? Edd China.
