What kind of hoop should a beginner buy

If that's the case for you, I have a separate video on how to pick your first polypro hoop. My recommendation is to keep a healthy balance of both on-body hooping and off-body hooping in your hoop dance practice because they are both beneficial and fun.

I really want to emphasize the importance of picking out the right size hoop to fit your body perfectly. There is no one size fits all, every hoop is custom made. So when picking out your first beginner hoop, take into account your body type.

You want to make sure that you're going to have space inside your hoop to move and explore. That is the width of the actual tubing. What psi stands for is pounds per square inch, which refers to the weight of the hoop. The smaller the number the lighter the hoop will be and the larger the number the heavier the hoop will be. So is the heaviest and is the lightest which is standard size for beginner hoops. The diameter refers to the measurement from one point of your hoop across to the other.

Some hoop shops might measure their diameter by OD which stands for outer diameter, which would be the measurement from the outside walls of the hoop. Other hoop shops might measure their diameter by ID which stands for inner diameter, which would be the measurement from the inside walls of the hoop.

The extra room inside of a larger hoop lets you move a little slower as the hoop is spinning around you, giving you more time to feel where the hoop is making contact on your body. The slower movement from a larger hoop also gives more time to react to where the hoop is while executing a move or trick.

Large hoops are great for beginners and for practicing new moves, especially on-body moves, as large hoops spin around your body slower. Taped Beginner hoops come in a lovely, hand-picked variety of our favorite tapes, and also can be easily customized! Larger hoops also tend to weigh more than smaller hoops and the extra weight gives the hoop more momentum as it travels around you, which is another element helps your hoop to stay up.

Larger, heavier hoops are also wonderful for exercise, as the added weight of the hoop engages your core during waist hooping. Waist hooping can be quite meditative with a slower hoop, allowing you to relax into a routine and enjoy simpler moves while focusing on strengthening your core and keeping the hoop in place. Smaller hoops ranged 33 inches and below may not ideal for sustained spinning for a beginner but are perfect for transitioning back and forth from core hooping and off-body hoop dancing, which is a key component in saving strength during long dance sessions.

You can also perform lots of sophisticated isolations with one or two minis. Check out our Tutorials page for some great Multiple Hooping tutorial videos to help you progress with minis and double hooping!

Fire Wicks will add about 5 inches to each end past the tubing, for a total of 10 inches added to the clearance of your hoop. Your regular sized hoop or a hoop sized slightly smaller may be a good option for choosing a Fire Hoop size.

Since the Fire Wicks are removable you can choose any hoop size to add to your current hoop collection. You can also add decorative hoop tape to make your hoop sparkle in the fire light! Hoop tubing with no grip added like sandpaper, grip tape, or hoop wax is very slick and can be difficult to keep up, even for an experienced hooper. Do you recommend the next hoop I get to be hdpe and if so should it be smaller than my 90 cm polypro? I would definitely recommend HDPE just because everyone needs one in their collection.

I would definitely recommend going down if its feeling too big. I do think HDPE is a great choice. Should I hula hoop? If so what size and weight should I use? I wanna lose some belly fat and become fitter. Yes I would definitely recommend hooping, but check with your doctor to be sure!! Hi Danielle! Nice versatile size for all off body tricks! Hello Ruby! I have a few hoops already, weighted and unweighted larger ones, as well as a small polypro that is not ideal to body hoop with.

With LED, should I be aiming for a certain weight? Honestly the extra weight of the LEDs will make it easier to body hoop with it so I would recommend a hoop the same size as your favorite Polypro! I have looked all through your page and have to say it is very helpful for someone trying to get into hula hooping! I purchased a weighted hoop 2. I am curious when you take the measurement of your body where do you take it?

Hi Syndey, thank you for visitng our website. I would recommend measuring at the smallest point of your waist because that is where the hoop will naturally gravitate at first.

Hi, I hope my message finds you well and safe: I am 1,47 cm adult and my goal is to lose some inches from my belly and hips.

Mama Ruby July 7, - pm Hey Elaine! You are still reading! I see you want to know even more about choosing the right weighted hula hoop. Another way to think of it is how thick the hoop is, the thicker the hoop, the heavier it will be. This hoop is best for someone that is either already familiar with waist hooping or that falls into the category of a small-medium waist, 5'5" or smaller and under pounds.

We really like our Glitter Hoops in a Dance Hoop weight. This hoop is a little heavier and will, in general, be easier to hoop with if you are an absolute beginner. This hoop is best for someone that is looking for a good workout and looking to lose weight. It bridges the gap between the lighter 1 LB and heavier 1. This is best for someone with an average build, 5'4" or taller and under pounds.

Check out our entire selection of these weighted hoops. This hoop is a big one and honestly feels really nice as it is rolling around your body. This hoop feels like it is massaging your internal organs and your belly, which is actually a good thing and helps to get the blood moving as well as detoxify your body.
